2008 PNW Regional Championship - Hosted by the
German Shepherd SchH Club
The warmest
weekend of the year in the beautiful Pacific Northwest greeted the competitors
and spectators to the 2008 Pacific
Northwest Regions Schutzhund Championship. The Schutzhund tracking was completed
on Saturday before the high temperature set in, except for FH Champion Taylor
Franke with her dog

Chateau, SchH3, FH1. Taylor is a USA Youth Member and handled her dog
calmly and to perfection on her way to a score of 85 in a difficult track and
over 90 degree heat. Congratulations Taylor - you impressed us all with your
preparation and handling skills.
Sunday was very hot (for the Pacific
Northwest) with temperatures reaching 96 degrees during obedience and
protection. The Judge,
Svoldgaard Nielsen, judged the trial like it
was 50 degrees. He was tough and VERY correct - the handlers knew they had been
judged
by one of the most precise judges under which they might ever show their dogs
again.

The German Shepherd Schutzhund
Club and those that attended this years Championship owe a GIANT debt of
gratitude to
Wayne Curry
and his staff. Wayne stepped up and volunteered his
Schutzhund field, his staff and provided a
VERY large tent for
shade and complete cooking facilities for meal preparation.
We thank Wayne for providing us a first class venue for
the Schutzhund
trial and excellent tracking fields. Only a seasoned competitor,
like Wayne, could foresee the potential problems with the heat and
solve ALL
situations BEFORE they became problems. Thanks Wayne for your foresight and
hospitality. What could have been a
miserably hot, difficult trial turned out to
be a success...thanks to you and your staff.

We also need to recognize the group of great competitors, some of whom traveled
from as far away as California (Julia Priest and Jan Nielsen) and Canada (Karen
Sinclair, The PNW Champion with her dog Georgie). The field was made up of good
sports friends and competitors. And, of course the spectators at events of this
type are what tops-off these events. As with the competitors, some of the
spectators had traveled from as far away as California, Oregon and Canada. The
spectators were involved and knowledgeable and
helped to keep the competitors motivated and focused. Thanks to all who attended
this years Championship.
